HEADACHE
Symptoms & treatment for headache
Headaches are one of the most common medical complaints and can be broadly classified into primary and secondary headaches.
Primary headaches occur without an underlying disease and are usually caused by overactivity of pain-sensitive structures in the head. Common examples include tension headaches, migraines, and cluster headaches. Secondary headaches, however, are symptoms of an underlying medical condition. These may result from infections, sinus problems, dehydration, high blood pressure, head injuries, medication overuse, or other health issues.
A persistent headache for days should not be ignored, especially if it is severe, worsening, or accompanied by symptoms such as fever, vomiting, vision changes, dizziness, numbness, or difficulty speaking. Understanding the possible causes can help determine when medical attention is needed.
